Introduction
ISD Scotland's role
In response to the white paper 'Towards a Healthier Scotland' which recognised that Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) and Stroke were national priorities. The Scottish Executive commissioned the CHD and Stroke strategy report and as a result, Information Services (ISD) of National Services Scotland was asked to set up the Coronary Heart Disease & Stroke programme, funded by the Scottish Executive Health Department (SEHD). The aim of the programme is to provide information to help improve the treatment of CHD and Stroke and reduce the number of deaths and incidence of CHD and Stroke.
Stroke Health Targets as outlined by the white paper :-
. A 50% reduction in age standardised mortality rate for stroke in people aged less than 75 years between 1995 and 2010.

. Data Quality & Assurance Service to ensure conformity and standards across NHSScotland.
. Analytical support for Stroke
. Work on the development of standard datasets and definitions for Scottish CHD and Stroke patients across all care settings
. Support for national planning of services
. Support for Managed Clinical Network
