7 Recommendations

7.1 RECOMMENDATIONS

The collection of data from the non-NHS sector should be continually reviewed so that maximum accuracy can be achieved. (Para. 2.2.13)

All health service providers should ensure that the data used for the SNIP exercise is robust. (Para. 2.2.7)

Those involved in providing demand forecast information should include information on the SNIP collection and collation forms about the assumptions used when arriving at the five year forecast. (Para. 2.2.9)

The SNIP project team should undertake strategies to achieve maximum co-operation from participants in the SNIP exercise. (Para. 2.2.10)

The SNIP project team should consider enhancing the guidance to those involved in completing the demand forecasts. (Para. 2.2.11)

The documentation for the next SNIP exercise should be changed to reflect the term 'Registered Nurse' (RN). (Para. 2.2.15)

Second-level nurses (formerly enrolled nurses) on the professional nursing register, should be included as registered nurses for the purposes of the SNIP exercise. (Para. 2.2.17)

The SNIP exercise should be seen as an integral part of regional workforce planning. (Para. 2.3.1)

The collection of SNIP data should be collected in a way that is sympathetic to the organisational change in NHSScotland, namely by having one return from each unified Board area. (Para. 2.3.2)

The SNIP Project Team should take account of the impact of Agenda for Change with further data collection for SNIP purposes. (Para. 2.2.9)

The possibilities for future data collection and modelling exercises should be expanded to reflect the wider nursing and midwifery workforce. (Para. 2.3.3)
