Minister's Foreword

Malcolm Chisholm
Minister for Health and Community Care

Nurses and midwives are at the very centre of NHSScotland and I want to ensure that nurses are at the centre of the developments that are being taken forward in Scotland as a result of the Facing the Future initiative. A FTF Implementation Group has been set up to take practical actions on these developments and all the members of the group are actively involved in implementing initiatives that will make a real difference.

It is essential that nursing staff at all levels, at all stages of their careers, and in all settings are aware of the progress being made and this site will enable staff to keep up to date with developments. Just as importantly, I want all nurses to have the opportunity to contribute to the development of nursing in Scotland. Through this site nurses will be able to take part in discussions to help continue the progress already being made and inform policy development.

I do hope you will find the Facing the Future site informative and useful and that you will take the opportunity to take part in the discussion forum. Your views are important if we are to develop a workforce for the 21st century and I hope you take the opportunity afforded by the various options on the site to express your views and ideas. Working together we can help develop and shape of nursing in NHSScotland for the future.

Malcolm Chisholm
Minister for Health and Community Care
